Thurston Group Limited
Quarry Hill Industrial Estate
Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Since formation in 1970 over 50 years ago, Wakefield-based Thurston Group has continually evolved its operation and is now one of the longest-standing and highest performing modular and portable building manufacturers in the UK.
A turnkey service
With over three factories across Hull and Wakefield, we have an annual capacity of 5000 units. We’ll work with you on bespoke designs to suit individual client needs and with our finance partners, we can provide flexible finance solutions for your projects.
Our modular and portable buildings are manufactured offsite so construction isn’t impacted by weather changes or other site issues. Utilising BIM and a controlled manufacturing process, we build to a much higher standard than a traditional build.
We undertake a strict quality control process throughout the entire process ensuring we deliver high-quality, sustainable products. From the design stage, we monitor and improve quality through the RIBA Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA), providing guidance to the design team in simplifying the product structure. This reduces costs, improves efficiency and quantifies improvements.
Not only does this help reduce waste and improve sustainability, it also improves the quality of the build. Nothing leaves the factory unless it’s been signed off and approved, meaning durable, lifetime buildings.
We believe that we can all make a huge difference. Our mission extends beyond our services and products and into the local communities we serve.
We want to look for the relevant social, environment and economic value in everything that we do. Encouraging social inclusion and advocating social value contributions across the organisation, we actively engage with and support local communities, from working with charitable organisations to providing educational and employment opportunities across the North East and beyond.
Social Value Quality Mark
We’ve been awarded the Social Value Quality Mark (SVQM). Awarded by an independent social enterprise, the SVQM is awarded to values-driven organisations and is the only social value accreditation that’s recognised across the UK and internationally. It enables us to demonstrate independent accreditation and recognises our commitment to social value.
We believe in making sure our business makes a positive impact on the community and environment in which we work. Offsite construction is more sustainable than traditional methods. Committed to reducing our carbon footprint and ensuring that we’re building a better future, we make sure our waste is minimal and that we’re building sustainable modular and portable buildings.
A Fabric First Approach
We adopt a fabric first approach at every level of the design and build process with a particular focus on maximising airtightness, using efficient insulation and optimising solar gain.
