This week, Thurston Group welcomed colleagues from Wernick to our Wakefield facility for a collaborative technical learning session focused on fire safety, regulatory compliance and modern methods of modular construction.
Bringing together health and safety professionals, design managers and depot teams from across the Wernick business, the day provided an opportunity to explore the principles, standards and processes that underpin the design and manufacture of Thurston buildings and cabins.
Led by our Head of Technical, the session covered key topics including fire safety, regulatory compliance and the practical application of standards such as the Joint Code of Practice (JCoP). Attendees were also given a behind-the-scenes tour of our manufacturing facility, offering first-hand insight into how design, engineering and production work together to ensure our products consistently meet the required standards and performance expectations.
While the event was designed as a collaborative knowledge-sharing session rather than a formal CPD programme, it reflected many of the qualities associated with Continuing Professional Development. It combined technical learning, practical examples and direct engagement with subject matter experts, creating valuable opportunities for discussion and shared understanding.
Importantly, the session was beneficial for both organisations. As well as sharing expertise around design, fire safety and compliance, the day gave Thurston teams valuable insight into how our products are used in the field, helping us better understand customer requirements and identify opportunities for future product development and innovation.
Events like these demonstrate the value of strong customer partnerships. By bringing together technical experts, operational teams and end users, we can collectively raise standards, share best practice and ensure our products continue to evolve in response to real-world challenges.
Looking ahead, there is clear potential to develop sessions such as these into more formal CPD-accredited programmes, providing customers and industry professionals with structured learning opportunities around modular construction, fire safety, compliance and engineering best practice.
A big thank you to everyone from Wernick who attended and contributed to a productive and engaging day. We look forward to continuing the conversation and building on the partnership in the months ahead.
