The TheBusinessDesk.com Yorkshire Leadership Awards programme was created to celebrate people who are role models within their organisations, and raise the bar for their competitors, highlighting extraordinary leadership and positive impact.

Matt has been nominated for both the Manufacturing Leader and Company Leader awards, in recognition of his work in leading Thurston Group through exceptional growth, whilst championing development and innovation at every level.

The Manufacturing Leader award looks at individuals who are delivering long-term impact on the sector, and helping to change the industry by embracing innovation, developing the skills of their workforce, or leading the way in sustainability.

Meanwhile, the Company Leader award celebrates those who are showing great leadership in a larger company. Set to be given to the best leader in an organisation which employs more than 100 people, this award recognises the effort required to ensure company direction and vision is managed and communicated across shifts and sites.

Matt’s strategic vision and commitment to propelling Thurston Group into new sectors and markets across the UK has seen him shortlisted for both awards, after spearheading transformative improvements across the company, and solidifying its position at the forefront of the industry.

Keen to support and inspire the team, over the past year, Thurston has invested over £140,000 in training and development in the past 12 months alone, providing 100 sector-specific training sessions across the workforce in welding, powered access equipment and broader skills like first aid and fire safety.

Since Matt was appointed managing director in 2018, Thurston has also achieved remarkable year-on-year growth, breaking through a turnover plateau of approximately £24 million to reach £51 million by the year ending October 2023.

This continued success and investment has ensured that Thurston has maintained its position as a UK leader in offsite manufacturing, with Matt driving growth and operational excellence throughout the company.

The Yorkshire business community will come together to celebrate the best in business leadership at the ceremony next year at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, taking place on 20th March 2025.
