Tang Hall Primary School

Thurston’s has worked with the City of York Council on a bespoke modular children’s centre for Tang Hall Primary School. Described as “one of the finest elementary educational buildings in the country”  by local media, the centre will house children aged 0-5 and nursery staff.

Designed to be fully integrated into the existing building, the centre features a pitched roof, bike racks and brick and stone cladding. This 12 bay Surespan building also comprises two new play rooms, storage areas, WC’s, lobby and kitchen area. A government initiative to double free childcare for working parents from 16 to 30 hours per week brought a significant rise in demand for nursery facilities. Tang Hall Primary School needed the new facility to meet this growing demand.
