Thurston Group were presented with a different type of challenge with Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.
With an urgent requirement to increase respiratory ward space due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The client brief was to deliver a 10 bed ward facility that must be operational within an unprecedented short program and with minimum disruption to the running hospital, whilst following Government guidelines on social distancing.
The use of a partnering approach as principal contractor to this project helped develop the detailed specification within strict time constraints, providing 10 ventilated bed spaces, Nurses Station, Staff Room, Accessible shower and WC rooms, Laundry / Utility rooms with a one way entry / exit floorplan with automated sliding doors.

All works were completed with minimal disruption to the running of the main site, even though it was adjacent to the main A&E entrance for hospital.
As with all projects, our project and design team worked closely with our client’s estates team to ensure that their deadlines are met and the building meets their exact specifications, whilst ensuring all the relevant Health Technical Bulletins and Notices had been met.
