    Case Study

    Hugg Homes, Southampton

    Thurston Group was commissioned to design, manufacture and install one, two and three bed bespoke modular homes for Hugg Homes, Southampton. Complete with fitted kitchens, shower rooms and fitted wardrobes, the homes will be of mixed tenure with a marine painted finish. In order to support the immediate need for housing in the area the homes will be in place for five years.

    Hugg Homes is working in partnership with Southampton City Council on the regeneration of Chapel Riverside. The overall site, a former waste depot, will see a major scheme delivered of over 450 homes, commercial and retail space. The main scheme is being delivered under a development agreement with the council retaining the ultimate freehold of the land. 

    Our homes are part of a new concept called ‘meanwhile housing’. Providing temporary housing in a vacant area while the planning process goes ahead. This means the council is able to provide much needed homes until the site is needed. Although a BBA certificate provides additional assurance to the client that the homes have a minimum design life of 60 years.

    Completed offsite then delivered and craned into place, deliveries were staggered to maximise the efficiency of the crane. Enabling modules to be delivered and placed with just one lift. Once in position, services were plugged in and pipework was connected to existing outlets. The homes were ready to be moved into almost straight away.
