Prioritising sustainability

2 min read | December 2024

Year 2 Results and Insights

In Year 2, Thurston reported 799 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) emissions, equating to 15.6 tCO2e per £1m turnover and 2.9 tCO2e per employee. While this represents an increase from the previous year, it’s important to note that this is due to expanded reporting, incorporating additional Scope 3 emissions like waste and water usage. This broader data collection provides a more accurate and comprehensive view of our environmental footprint.

Key Sustainability Initiatives

To drive progress towards our net-zero goal, we’ve implemented several key initiatives:

  • Energy Efficiency: Transitioned to hybrid vehicles, installed energy-efficient LED lighting, and optimised energy usage across all sites.
  • Waste Management: Achieved 100% waste recycling or recovery, with a focus on reducing emissions from materials like steel and plasterboard.
  • Renewable Energy: Initiated a feasibility study for solar panel installation to harness renewable energy sources.
  • Operational Improvements: Adopted electric forklifts and advanced energy monitoring systems to enhance efficiency.
  • Employee Engagement: Launched sustainability awareness campaigns to foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
  • Supply Chain Collaboration: Worked with suppliers to promote greener practices throughout our value chain.
  • Path to Net Zero

Our comprehensive Carbon Reduction Action Plan outlines a clear path to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. By prioritising renewable energy, operational efficiency, employee engagement, and supply chain collaboration, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact.

Thurston Group remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainability. By taking significant strides in reducing our carbon footprint and embracing innovative solutions, we are confident in our ability to achieve a sustainable future.

Off-site manufactured modular and relocatable cabins offer companies a flexible, efficient solution for boosting eco-credentials, as they can be readily adapted with sustainable features that enhance energy efficiency.
