LAYHER UK, Depot Facility

The brief

Having seen a growing demand for its products across the central region of the UK, scaffolding service Layher UK, required a new depot facility building that provided office and welfare space.

Layher UK commissioned Thurston to provide a new, four-bay modular office/welfare suite to be their new West Midlands dept

The challenges

The project required a short turnaround, as well as coordination of drainage systems within an active power station site.

The solution

The building was delivered in just six weeks from point of order, with only two weeks on site for groundworks and installation.  The modular building consists of four modules, comprising of a reception area, office space, meeting room, storeroom, WC and a fully integrated kitchen.

Thurston provided a full turnkey package, including a 4420m2 reinforced concrete hard standing, which will be used to store stillages for scaffolding, event systems, and cladding. Thurston also fitted full surface and foul water drainage runs, as well as a level access ramp installed at the entrance, to provide safe access for wheelchair users.

However, without a dedicated site in this region, we were having to transport customers’ goods from the wider Letchworth and Yorkshire locations to the West Midlands, wasting unnecessary time and costs.

Therefore, we required a dedicated depot with office and welfare space that would allow us to support our local clients, transporting and supplying our products quicker and to aid further growth in this important region.
