About the project
Contract type: Full turnkey package
Procurement route: Unspecified
GIFA: 120m2
Timescale: 6 weeks
The brief
Having seen growing demand for its products across the central region of the UK, Layher UK required a new depot facility building that provided office and welfare space.
Layher UK commissioned Thurston to provide a new four-bay modular office and welfare suite to serve as their new West Midlands depot.
The challenges
The project required a short turnaround, as well as coordination of drainage systems within an active power station site.
The solution
The building was delivered in just six weeks from point of order, with only two weeks on site for groundworks and installation. The modular building consists of four modules, comprising a reception area, office space, meeting room, storeroom, WC, and a fully integrated kitchen.
Thurston provided a full turnkey package, including a 4,420m2 reinforced concrete hardstanding, used to store stillages for scaffolding, event systems, and cladding. Thurston also installed full surface and foul water drainage runs, as well as a level access ramp at the entrance to provide safe access for wheelchair users.
Customer testimonial
Steve Pickard, Operations Manager, said:
“The West Midlands and Central UK is a major scaffolding hub and we have noticed a growing demand for our products and services across these regions.
However, without a dedicated site in this region, we were having to transport customers’ goods from the wider Letchworth and Yorkshire locations to the West Midlands, wasting unnecessary time and costs.
Therefore, we required a dedicated depot with office and welfare space that would allow us to support our local clients, transport and supply our products more efficiently, and aid further growth in this important region. There was no doubt that a modular build is and will continue to be our preferred method of construction.”
