Thurston Group are presently openly recruiting for various roles based at our Head Office in Wakefield.

For this opportunity, we are seeking an Estimator to join our ever growing and successful team on a Full time, Permanent contract.

Thurston Group is a growing business that spans three sites in Yorkshire, we’re looking to double our turnover in the next three years and need to build a fantastic team to help us do that. If you’re a driven team player with a keen eye for detail, we’d love to hear from you for our Estimator position.

An Estimator will be involved in the bid management process from receiving the initial enquiry to ensuring timely submission of the quotations.

Upon receipt of any order, the Estimator will process the required documentation and hand over to the respective teams within the business giving additional support to the projects team in preparing required site process/documentation.

1. Book incoming enquires into the quotation database as required.

2. Provide an efficient / timely service to customers and ensure client specified deadlines are achieved and unspecified quote dates are turned around in 14 days maximum. Where applicable any product quotes are to be turned around in seven days maximum.

3. Presentation of quotations in line with the company upmarket image, utilising standard templates available.

4. Understand and be familiar with contract terms and conditions to ensure risks are identified and qualified where appropriate.

5. Support business development managers in pre and post tender client meetings

6. Cost effective evaluations of projects on receipt of enquiry and obtain a practical solution to manufacturing.

7. Organise launch and contract review meetings.

8. Compile sub-contractor and specialist materials enquiries as required, ensuring dispatch in a timely manner in line with quotation deadline. Evaluate subsequent quotations for use in our tender packages. Ensure the most competitive bids are obtained.

9. To discuss profit margins and sales targets on particular projects prior to quotation dispatch.

10. Ensure estimates are compiled on in-house bespoke computerised estimating system.

11. Contribute to research and development as requested.

12. Use IT skills to develop and contribute to systems within the estimating department as required.

13. Take ownership of the sub-contractor database and maintain on behalf of the department.

14. Attend post-tender meetings with clients as required.

15. Contribute to weekly / monthly sales meetings as required and attend the monthly project meeting as required. Assist in the production of daily, weekly, and monthly departmental reports as required.

BSC in a relevant construction degree 2:1

  • Over seven years’ experience post-graduation.
  • Experience in the building and construction sector.
  • Understanding cost base risk analysis.
  • Analytical thinking skills.

    Knowledge of engineering

    Excellent written communication skills.

    The ability to accept criticism and work well under pressure.
