The brief
Thurston was briefed to design, manufacture, and install a blast-resistant welfare building with various rooms and specific safety requirements.
The challenges
Disruption needed to be minimal, due to the site being live and operational. There were also specific blast-resistance requirements that needed to be met.
The solution
Liaising with an external civil contractor, Thurston manufactured a series of blast units for the client, ultimately forming a blast resistant complex including a reception and welfare block.
The complex, complete with air conditioning, also features a large open plan office space, with meeting rooms, a kitchenette, and three smaller offices.
Offsite construction allowed Thurston to keep disruption to a minimum. The project was delivered to Esso on time, within budget and to a high standard.
All buildings have been designed to withstand up to 100mbar blast resistance.
