Prioritising sustainability
Year 2 Carbon Footprint Report.
2 min read | December 2024
Thurston Group continues to prioritise sustainability, working towards our goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Our 2023 Carbon Footprint Report, developed in partnership with Carbon.Climate.Certified, provides a detailed analysis of our environmental impact across three facilities in Wakefield, Catfoss, and Hull.
Year 2 Results and Insights
In Year 2, Thurston reported 799 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) emissions, equating to 15.6 tCO2e per £1m turnover and 2.9 tCO2e per employee. While this represents an increase from the previous year, it’s important to note that this is due to expanded reporting, incorporating additional Scope 3 emissions like waste and water usage. This broader data collection provides a more accurate and comprehensive view of our environmental footprint.
Key Sustainability Initiatives
To drive progress towards our net-zero goal, we’ve implemented several key initiatives:
Path to Net Zero
Our comprehensive Carbon Reduction Action Plan outlines a clear path to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. By prioritising renewable energy, operational efficiency, employee engagement, and supply chain collaboration, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact.
Thurston aligns its reporting with international standards like the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064. Annual reviews ensure accountability and alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Thurston Group remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainability. By taking significant strides in reducing our carbon footprint and embracing innovative solutions, we are confident in our ability to achieve a sustainable future.
